PET PORTRAITS

My work combines detailed realist pencil portraiture with a deep love of animals and the natural world. Every whisker, every glint in the eye, every subtle shift of expression matters — because those details are what make your pet uniquely yours.

Working from Penistone in South Yorkshire, I create commissioned pet portraits for clients across the UK. Many people discover my work locally and through social media, where they see previous commissions and request their own bespoke artwork.

I use traditional techniques, carefully building layers of tone to achieve depth, softness and true-to-life realism. The result is a timeless portrait designed to be treasured for years to come.

If you can’t decide what to buy an animal lover – gift vouchers for a pet portrait are an ideal gift, giving them the chance to be involved from the beginning

Commission a Pet Portrait

How It Works

1. Send Your Photo

Choose clear, high-quality images that captures your pet’s personality. As colours change greatly dependent on lighting, it’s important to show me a photo which captures the colour of the fur as you see it, even if it’s not the photo you want recreating. I’m happy to advise if you’re unsure which to use.

If you want a number of animals but don’t have photos including all, I can use single photos and group them.

2. Discuss Size & Composition

We’ll decide on sizing, orientation, background and any special details and if a group is required from separate photos I will give you examples of possible compositions.

3. Creation Process

Your portrait is hand-drawn in pencil using a traditional layering technique to achieve fine detail and depth. I send update photographs of the art as I create it so you can change colour and detail as required as we go along.

4. Delivery

Your finished artwork will be carefully packaged and posted to you Royal Mail Special Delivery as this is the only service providing insurance for art.

I ask for 50% payment at time of booking with the remainder once you approve the final proof, plus P&P.

Each commission is completely bespoke. While I offer a standard price list (see below), prices may vary depending on size, detail and complexity.

Pet Portrait Gallery

Here you’ll find a small selection of commissioned pet portraits, including dogs, cats, horses and other much-loved companions.

Every portrait is drawn by hand using graphite or coloured pencil, focusing on:

Accurate proportions • Fine fur detail • Expressive eyes • True-to-life tonal depth

Many clients tell me the eyes are what truly bring their portrait to life — because that’s where personality lives.

There are far too many portraits to show every breed I’ve drawn, but if you have a particular breed in mind — or you see a style you love — please get in touch and we can discuss creating something similar for your own pet.
